Mexico City

Mexico City was vibrant, eclectic, sophisticated, and just… cool. During our travels there, there was literally too much good food to be able to eat.

My husband keeps kosher 100% of the time. I, on the other hand, sometimes veer more into “Kosher Style” territory. I remember before we went to Mexico, I told my husband that at least once during our trip, I was going to give in to a lifelong desire to try some Mexico City street food. To do that, I would inevitably need to step off the road of Kosher. “I just want to be able to try some authentic food, at least once,” I told him.

Well, it turned out, we got to eat plenty of authentic, and Kosher, food in Mexico City. So much, in fact, that I never ended up grabbing some of that street food. What we ate was just too darn good, and I was always too full!

We stayed in the neighborhood of Polanco – an upscale, beautiful neighborhood with a large Jewish population. Many, though not all, of the Kosher restaurants in CDMX can be found there. Due to its beauty, cleanliness, commutability, safety, and of course, proximity to Kosher restaurants and synagogues, I’d definitely recommend staying in Polanco. Also, it was surprisingly affordable as well!

Ajla Gourmet

Dairy

Ajla Gourmet was the first restaurant that we tried in Mexico City, right after a late night flight from Cancún the night before. While this place is marketed more as a café or small to-go place on google, it is so much more than that. Ajla was a delicious, cozy, and welcome find. It is a mix of café and restaurant, with to-go food as well. It is definitely a locals place, with families there in the morning hours, tables cobbled together as need be to make space, and a general feeling of warmth and ease to it.
